Danke!

a. Morri begged and bugged me to come up with a DC character. I decided I wanted somebody who'd handle the truth well, and bounce off John some and throw the other characters a few curveballs. I came up with the homeless guy with a nickname, bounced around nicknames for a while and hit on Rat, which immediately made me think of Basil Rathbone for some reason. I started to form a look around lanky and with a big nose, and then I got lucky enough to find these pictures of an utterly perfect PB. I think once I found those pictures it all clicked.
b. Rat's very perceptive about people, and he's very much a gentle peacemaker. It's hard not to like him, because he's just so nice and friendly.
c. He's maybe a little too loyal, and he'd willingly sacrifice himself for other people whether they'd appreciate it or not. This may become a problem if the city ever gets to a point where they need a face to give people for who's pulling the strings. He'd take on that role even knowing it might get him lynched.
d. Rat's pretty easy to write, his speech patterns are more informal than Sarah and Schreber's because he hangs out with a lower class, and his laid-back personality isn't too far from mine. I'm not as perceptive about other people though, not by a long shot. It's one of those things that can be faked in RP because of OOC knowledge.
e. I really liked the thread in the diner with Sarah, where she started telling him the truth. He was very calm about the whole thing, and polite in a friendly way, even though he was reeling a little internally.
f. I've hinted I have something big in mind for Rat? The record album and Willie are a part of that. What I'm trying to hint at is that he has a vastly more detailed history than most people in the city. There's an unusual amount of evidence for his memories, which is part of why he's really struggling to let go of that as a reality. Rat's actually living in a tricky state of half-belief right now. I've talked about all this with Morri and been given the go ahead... the only reason the Strangers would construct such a detailed past is if he's woken up during tuning before, maybe more than once (obviously his last time for that was before the start of the movie timeline). And you might be able to take the idea from there, but I don't want to type it out yet...

I think I have an idea, but I am pretty dense when it comes to connecting the dots. I'm always the person in the theater that leaves the movie going, "Wait... he was dead the whole time?!"

I liked the diner scene a lot, too. Sarah was certainly not expecting Rat to take things as well as he did. She didn't take things very well (of course, she was told in a rather mean way).

;) Well it'll be a surprise to Rat, too.

Partly she was a hell of a lot gentler than Schreber was, partly Rat just keeps a very cool head even in situations that weird him out.
