Hallowe'en is the best holiday ever.
Oct. 24th, 2005 12:33 pmHallowe'en stuff! Quiz and a bunch of pictures...
And piccies. Sort of an overview of Hallow e'en past. Because.
Also it occurred to me that since I'm horrible about keeping in touch,
people online haven't seen my costumes since I moved out here with
Ginny.
This first is actually from before the move, the year that Ginny
visited me for the first time. It was our first meeting ever, and it
was on the weekend of Hallowe'en. Somewhere I have photos of us
together, she had this Indian Dancer costume thing with a sari, and I
thought it was pretty damn sexy. This photo was out because it's one of
her favorites of me ever. I think I look creepy, but apparently she
thought I looked sexy, and she developed sort of a thing about me and
my female pirate character after that...

My first Hallowe'en out here, we started work on Raven and Dove
costumes that we modified and used for three years in a row. The first
year it wasn't finished, I remember I had the mask and one wing done, a
big cardboard thing on a glove and all covered in black fabric, one
primary father attached to each finger. I really liked the idea but
ultimately it was just too unwieldy. I spent that Hallowe'en flapping
around with one wing though. The next year I got this gorgeous vest
made up, and fixed up the mask, then got horribly sick for weeks. I had
no voice and missed a lot of work, but with the laryngitis I could make
these wonderful raven-y noises when I was supposed to stay quiet. We
stayed in, and I was annoyed over that, but later in winter in a fit of
artistic photo-ness, I dragged Ginny out into the snow with our
costumes and took a bunch of photos. These are some of the results. The
light was beautiful, but for some reason I wound up with no color
photos of my own costume. I have both color and b/w of Ginny's.

The next year saw further edits of the same costume, and we went to
this really cool thing at the Art Museum that they don't seem to b
having this year. ]:-\ Also I took no photos, but the costume is still
around.
The next year we were sick of the raven/dove thing, and I got this
wacky idea to be Anubis. Ginny went as a kind of Geisha Kitty. These
are not necessarily the best photos of our costumes, but still my
favourites. I had armbands on my costume, but they didn't stay up well
so I took them off early in the evening, and Ginny had a tail, you just
can't see it. It was a very nice-looking thing of stuffed brown
pantyhose wih a wire and a nice curl at the end. My belt doesn't show
in these, but I carried a home-made feather and scales, painted gold.
All night long people asked me what the hell I was supposed to be.

The mask wasn't as done as I wanted, here's a photo showing the later
addition of lower jaw and tongue.

In a recent fit of Discworld fandom, I am going as the Death of Rats
this year, and I have a mostly-finished mask sitting behind me, and I'm
trying to get the other costume elements as a birthday gift since I
have no money and am a jobless bum atm. Photos to come later.

Had an irish coffee at the Highland Games yesterday, in honor of T.C., just like I said I would. ;)
