There are so many other things I need to do right now, like dishes and unemployment and job hunting and gift making, but I'm taking a few minutes to dink around the net anyway. ;)
Meme stolen from
revyrie
1. Getting kissed under the mistletoe or in the snow?
It'd have to be in the snow, we don't have any mistletoe.
2. Santa or Rudolph?:
...In what context?
3. Stocking or presents?:
We do both.
4. Egg nog or hot cider?:
Egg nog in coffee.
5. Angel or Star?:
Dove, always, except for that one year I think it was a peacock for Bridgie.
6. Decorating the tree or putting lights on the outside?
I'm the one who puts the lights on the tree, and we do lights around the inside of the livingroom window. None outside, although there are other people in the apartments who do.
7. Warm fires or sleigh rides?:
A sleigh ride would be awesome! Can I drive the horses?
8. Expensive presents or presents that come from the heart?:
I love presents that come from the heart, but something pricier that's practical and we can all use is okay. Really though. One of the most wonderful gifts that leaps to mind is a little ficlet Bridgie wrote one year about D.S. with his mother, as a tiny baby. It was about a page and a half. It was so sweet it brought me to tears.
9. Snow ball fight or snowman?:
Snow sculpture! One year in college I made a snow unicorn facing a gathering of snow animals including a deer, fox, rabbits, squirrel... I think that was it. It took me all day. Just a snowman is too simple.
10. Will you be getting coal or presents?:
Presents I hope! I'm not asking for much. What I'd really love for Christmas is a job.
11. Giving or Receiving presents?:
I want to give presents. I hope to give presents. It may mostly be art, and even that I'm scrambling to do amidst Etsy stuff and the general odds and ends of life.
12. Open presents quick or slow?
Wrapping paper is meant for ripping. ;)
13. Caroling or Christmas stories?
I've never been caroling but that'd be cool.
14. Snowy days or icy days?:
Snow day, especially while I'm unemployed anyway! Please!
15. Red or Green?:
Red Green show? I like Santa in green.
16. Nightmare before Christmas or The Santa Claus?:
TNBC starting before Halloween and all through Christmas. And I sing along because I have every song memorized.
17. Dasher or Dancer?:
Uhguh? Dancer...?
18. Prancer or Vixen?
Vixen makes me wonder if some of the team are female. They all have antlers if they're reindeer, right?
19. Comet or Cupid?:
Comet...
20. Donner or Blitzen?:
How did they come up with these names, originally?
21. Fake tree or Real tree?:
Fake, which I held out against for years, and then insisted on abruptly a few years ago, for a reason I'm hesitant to explain here.
22. Prime Rib or Ham?:
Whatever other people cook.
23. Red and White Candy Canes or Colorful Candy Canes?
Red and white, unless it's those chocolate mint ones. Most of the funny colored ones are weird flavors I don't like though. Plus Morri taught me to put the regular ones in cocoa as a kind of stir stick...
24. Get up early or sleep in late?:
I'm Thirty. I'm not in a rush to get up before dawn anymore. And yet... I still seem to wake a little earlier that morning and I can't help it. ;) I guess that's part of never growing up.
25. Old Christmas Movies or New ones?:
Depends on your definition, but there's familiar ones I like. The new new ones like on TV, we actually watched a couple of, and they were crappy little pieces of CG horror.
26. The Santa Claus 1 or The Santa Claus 2?
Er. I think I saw the first one all the way through once. I don't really remember it.
27. The Grinch movie or Elf movie?:
Neither? Can I pick neither? Please??
28. Scrooge or Tiny Tim?:
Scrooge, either Michael Kane or Bill Murray. ;D
29. Ornaments or a Wreath?:
We don't do a wreath. We do have an amazing amount of ornaments, I think they're breeding. And then there's my Nutcracker collection.
30. Christmas Eve or Christmas day?:
Christmas Day because there's a feeling of calm and contentment and the rush is over.
Before Christmas:
1. Does your family send Christmas cards?
...I keep meaning to.
2. How soon do you start shopping?:
I barely have this year, because there's just no money for it. I think I'm always late though. It seems like when I'm not jobless and unable to shop for lack of money, I'm working retail and in chaos and don't have time to shop. There's got to be a happy medium.
3. Who do you shop for?:
Mostly family, I get gifts for a few good friends and then they pile up somewhere until I get around to making some kind of package with a bunch of stuff. I have presents for Shiri that have been waiting for a couple years. Really.
4. Do you put up a Christmas tree?:
I personally do, yes.
5. If so, is it fake or real?:
Fake, see above. I'm starting to regret getting a pre-lit one though. The nice thing is it's very narrow, which is excellent in a small apartment.
Decorations:
6. Do you like tinsel?:
I love tinsel, but I haven't had it in a decade or more. It's too dangerous around cats.
7. Do you use homemade or store bought ornaments?:
They're mostly bought, but the majority are older ones from childhood so they have memories attached, and every year I get some kind of ornament at the Nutcracker, which again is a kind of sentimental memory. Almost every ornament on the tree we know who it belongs to specifically and where it came from and all that.
8. Do you put Christmas lights outside your house?:
I can't see doing that at the apartment. If it were an actual house and there was an electrical outside I would.
9. Do you put lights on the tree?:
Of course! Because pre-lit isn't the bargain you'd expect... It's lit with white, but we have strings of white, red, and multicolor and vary what we do from one year to the next.
10. How about popcorn and cranberries?:
I think Bridgie and Morri did that once...
11. Is there a wreath hanging on your door?:
No, I don't think we even have a hanger for one, plus it might get in the way of the knocker.
Christmas Eve:
13. Do you hang up your stocking?:
Nah, that never works well. Just lay them under the tree.
14. Does your family read "Twas the night before Christmas?":
Not usually....
Favorite:
15. Christmas Movie?:
I can't pick one. We usually watch TNBC, Muppet carol, Christmas story, Scrooged... On Christmas eve we go to Bridgie's parents house and watch the Christmas carol with... OMG... who? It's an older version and the same one every year and I'm blanking on the actor.
16. Character from any Christmas Movie:
The kid in the Christmas Story still reminds me of little D.S.
17. Christmas Song:
I love the Nutcracker, and I love the carol of the bells. We have a Cyndi Lauper Christmas album I picked up cheap at a drug store, and it is absolutely amazing and one of my favorites. There's 'Minnie and Santa' which is funny, and then she goes into 'the world is stone' and 'December child' and you find yourself in tears. Just amazing. Her voice is underrated, because she's got an incredible range.
18. Christmas Memory:
The Nutcracker. I was in it one year when I was really little, as one of Mother Ginger's children. I think that was the last year I was in ballet. It's one of those odd very girly things I cling to, and people who know me think it's out of character for me when they hear about it. I adore Herr Drosselmeier, and I still remember the intense desire to be Clara, and dancing around with my own nutcracker in the living room in my nightgown. I still have that nutcracker from when I was little, and he always has a place of honor in my collection.
This or That :
19. Give or Receive?:
There's just something about the anticipation of how someone will react when they get your gift. I guess that's why I'm not as big on shopping for people I have to ship it off to. I never get to watch them open it, and that's the best part.
22. Ham or Turkey?:
Turkey, year round.
24. White Lights or Colored Lights?
We do white on the trees more often, and it's more elegant, but the little kid in me wants multicolored.
25. Blinking Lights or Still Lights:
If there's going to be blinking lights I want them mixed with steady ones. All blinking is way too visually distracting.
26. Were you Naughty or Nice this year?:
I was myself? I'm not a naughty person, I don't think.
Presents:
27. What do you want for Christmas this year?:
A job.
No, really.
*sigh*
Okay, character gift art, the Neverwhere novel, Hellboy II, and a TV converter box so we'll still get PBS next year.
28. When do you open your gifts?:
Christmas morning, although if we've got enough of them one each on Christmas Eve is okay, but the person opening it doesn't get to pick.
29. What's the best gift you've ever gotten?:
I mentioned the D.S. story... Getting to see the Nutcracker every year is a gift. Ummm... Angelica. The stuffed panda. Who was nearly the same size as me.
What? I still have her. She just looks smaller now.
30. What's the worst gift you've ever gotten?:
Potholders, when I was about seven or eight.
31. Who gives you the most gifts?:
Family... my parents gave me the MP3 player which is a single gift but an awesome and expensive one. It was a combo birthday/Xmas present, and I can't believe they got me a new one this year for my birthday. I'm so grateful, since the old one inexplicably went very wrong.
32. Have you ever had a secret Santa?:
I have at work before, and it was pretty cool. Last year when I was still working my secret Santa got me a sketchbook and some drawing supplies, which are an awesome and useful gift I can always use more of.
33. Do you like wrapping gifts?:
I do! I used to wrap gifts for my dad, and I still sometimes do for others, because apparently I'm good at it. What can I say, my mother the perfectionist taught me how.
Random:
34. Do you put change in those red buckets?:
If I feel like I can spare it, yes. I can't always. Sometimes the change in my pocket is all I have to buy whatever I'm going in for, because the bank account is off limits due to bills.
35. Do you burn a yule log?:
We don't even have a fireplace.
36. Can you name all the reindeer?:
Probably...
37. Do you bake cookies?:
OMG did we bake cookies this weekend! Five dozen of one kind. They make good cheap gifts.
38. Have you ever seen your mommy kissing Santa Claus?:
Mine? Well my dad actually looks a lot like Santa, but that's without a costume.
39. Have you ever gotten a kiss under the mistletoe?:
Can't remember. I think Bridgie might have pulled out some plastic stuff and kissed me under it.
41. Do you drive around and look at the Christmas lights?:
My parents and I always did, because there was a street in our neighborhood were people seemed to be competing. We did the tacky lights tour out here once.
42. Have you ever left Santa cookies?:
My parents got me to, and some years we left healthy stuff instead of cookies. Hippies.
43. Have you ever sat on Santa's lap?:
I have. I always hated it. I knew that guy wasn't Santa, and I distrusted strangers in costumes from a very early age.
44. Who do you celebrate Christmas with?:
Family. We go to Bridgie's parents both on the eve and later in the day. Last year was the first Christmas at my parent's house since I moved away.
45. Where do you celebrate Christmas?:
At home, and at Bridgie's parent's.
46. Have you ever had a white Christmas?:
I don't think I have actually, or if I did it was only a light dusting. Just haven't lived in the right climate yet.
47. What part of Christmas do you look most forward to?:
That moment on Christmas morning when you come downstairs and put the lights on- just the tree and window lights, and sit there and look at it all and it's quiet and peaceful and perfect.
48. Have you ever had your picture taken with Santa?:
Uhh... probably, but my parents would have the photos and it wasn't a big thing. They never put those photos out every year or anything. Like I said, I never liked the Santa's lap experience, so I guess it didn't happen many times.
49. Does your family always take pictures at Christmas?
I always try to, but the camera tends to get forgotten for the most part.
50. Have you ever heard the song "Thank God For The Kids"?:
Noooooooooooo
*dies* Sorry, the 'o' key genuinely got stuck there. I need to clean the keyboard.

Date: Dec. 15th, 2008 06:45 pm (UTC)Both male and female reindeer have antlers. In the winter, the males shed theirs, so only the females have antlers during Christmas. This technically means that all of Santa's reindeer are females. :)

Date: Dec. 16th, 2008 12:00 am (UTC)Awesome! Santa's all chick flying reindeer team!
Fixed thirteen, because EVERYONE is poking me about it! *rolls eyes* ;)

I love the bookmark, too...I always lose mine and I love that size that isn't too bulky for the books. Thank you so much!!

Date: Dec. 20th, 2008 02:41 pm (UTC)You got the actor! And see above on the reindeer, clearly Santa's team is all chicks.
I just wanted to cram some little gifty things in there for you! Do me a favor and give us feedback on Etsy? Because we have none, and I seem to be having trouble marketing our shop so it might help.
