reymonkey: (Just me)

Catch up, Hi...

OMG I've been busy, and still am. I was getting better at making regular entries, but this month has been mad busy. The pretty girl already made a post about the doll class (The black and checkerboard jestery doll is mine), which was a panic to get ready for. I've got a Dirk doll going too, but for some reason the boss didn't take pics of him and I haven't uploaded the photos from the camera yet. I've also got a store sample to make and an employee contest entry to work on, and I'm trying to do art for my first ever entry in the MGC. Add to all that the general work stuff and this month is not good for the big guy, ever, so he's mopey. Plus one million thanks to [livejournal.com profile] notcrazy_honest for Gargoyles piracy! Not that it's technically piracy, since thanks to Disney there's really no other way to get the second half of Season 2. We did our part, we bought the first half, and I'd still be happy to buy the second half if they ever release it. Watching it meant I had to finally getting around to putting in the new sound card, and I opened the case and found out, guess what, no open expansion slots! Should I have known that already? Yeah, but it's been a while since I'd cracked it open. I had to take out my shiny happy USB 2.0 card, which means I lost a bunch of ports, which is why I haven't uploaded stuff from the digital camera yet... See. it all comes full circle. I'll try to have pretty things to look at in the next post, but I just don't have the time right now. Speaking of which I need to ink my MGC contest entry... I'm also trying to catch up on re's for [livejournal.com profile] call_me_rat today, since there is cool plot.

Friday LJ strike? I dunno. I am annoyed, because I have a basic account and I'm willing to sacrifice icon space just to not have ads. On the other hand it's free, and they've gotta make their money. I could make complaints against them, like that they're being protective with the mature content cuts but then they let porno ads run on the same page, but really, if I decide I'm fed up I'll leave. It's free. You get what you pay for.

ETA: LJ's writing prompt for the day: If one day you meet your favorite super star, what questions you would like to do to him/her?

Is it just me, or does that look like a Freudian slip?

I have a year left on my paid account on LJ. I have been on it a LONG time. I am getting sick of the way they are treating people. I have paid for my account as long as I have had it and this is stupid. I pay for it so people can have free accounts with no ads so when I go read their pages when I am not logged in, I don't have to read the ads either! I like the icons, but I don't need them. I use only a couple usually anyway. I am getting really frustrated that they are breaking away from their core concept so much. If I didn't already have so much time and effort invested in this journal, I would have walked away long ago.

They're treating people that way consistently, and have been for ages. But maybe I just have low expectations. I'll take a certain amount of crap for a free journal, since little of it has affected me directly. It's a lazy perspective to take, but... yeah. I'm also not seeing a lot of great alternatives. I keep hearing shit about the other LJ-like services too, and better the devil you know I guess.

I'm doing the boycott myself. It doesn't bother me so much that they're getting rid of the ad-free accounts, but I'm sick of the way they handle all their public relations problems. They always seem to try stuff without announcing it, wait a few days to see how mad people get, cobble together an apology--and then do the same thing again. :/

I think you're the main reason none of us posted yesterday, to show solidarity or something? Yes, that's their consistent response, I just don't see that there's anything we can do that's going to change that. They're behaving that way because they don't care much what we think, so... If something better comes along, I'd be happy to join a mass migration, but I'll stay on LJ as long as that's where the RP and friends are.

[identity profile] janewt.livejournal.com 2008-03-23 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
No, you're pretty much right: they don't care much, or have very much reason to. The truth is I do the bulk of my RP one-on-one with Viv over on IJ now, honestly, so I just check in here to keep up with a few people like you guys and some others. So it was kind of a no-effort protest for me, you know? I've let all my paid accounts expire, too. I just don't really want to give them any more money.

[identity profile] reymonkey.livejournal.com 2008-03-23 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
Dirk's my only paid account, ever. Am I sensing a slow migration over to IJ? If you're on there already, tell me what they're like? I know we'd all love to RP with you again.

[identity profile] janewt.livejournal.com 2008-03-23 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
I haven't really checked out any of the RP comms, so I don't know what RP is like there on the whole. As a site, IJ is clunkier than LJ (slowdowns, for instance, that they've mostly fixed but might come back); the down side of being smaller and less businessy than LJ is that they don't have LJ's resources. And the "Insanity" schtick still really gets on my nerves. On the other hand, 100 free icons! Ant the guy who runs it gives numerous updates on the front page.

[identity profile] reymonkey.livejournal.com 2008-03-23 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
I did look it over the other day, and it looked like no ads on the journals themselves, which really is the main reason I don't do a plus account. I don't mind them so much on RP journals that don't get many entries, but they just... bug me. I basically pay for Dirk's just because I want the lots of icons space. On the other hand there's no point moving him over when the RP is here.
What I really wish is that all these platforms were interchangeable, since the scripting is basically the same. That you could post to an LJ come with your IJ and vice-versa. Not gonna happen, but it would be nice. Might make them more competitive and drive them to be nicer to their customers, really...

LOL! XD

Um. You might want to read this, babe: http://darkrosetiger.livejournal.com/373663.html

Blergh. Not pleasant. If they start actually telling me I can't post gay/bi/lesbian/fanfic things, then I'm out and so are a lot of other people. For now the attack on it is subtle. I don't know. I just don't know.
