ZOMG I missed it Happy Birthday Kat!!!
And Happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] cheezdanish for tomorrow! Here I thought October was the month for birthdays.
I've slacked on the posting and quite frankly I haven't done anything to post, between work and the holiday and... work. I'll try to get more stuff up between now and the last of the month but I just don't know. I work all day again tomorrow, and then I do errands and then I crash briefly and then dinner and then the day's over and it's time to get up and go to work again. It's important to get creative time in but sometimes I just can't get to it daily, no matter how much I want to, or when I do get time I'm too burned out to make it happen. I've had evenings I sit there for an hour and a half with blank paper and pencil and end up just wanting to kill something because I can't draw a damn thing. I had artistic block for over a year once, so it's still a very touch and go thing to me and I live in fear of that returning. It killed my self image. It tore me apart. If it takes not pushing to keep myself steady, then that's what I'll do.
However! I managed to do something today. My parents don't really do stockings, even though I had one growing up. Bridgie's parents do and it's become a normal part of Christmas for the whole family out here, so we decided my parents need stockings this year when we go out to visit. I could've bought some, and I almost did, but then I had the brilliant idea that I'd make them. It went pretty well up until the edging on my dad's when I spent half an hour playing with the tension on the machine before I realized it had magically unthreaded itself higher up. Grr. It's really something I should have checked before that. Aaanyway, I mean to do a little beading or something, or maybe find some kind of fringe to put on my dad's because it doesn't look as good. The starry one is for my mother, out of pre-quilted material she sent me years ago. The one with the ships I had to quilt myself and it's a crappy job, but I don't think my dad will notice or care. Squeaks refused to move and kept sniffing at them, so I let her stay in the picture.

And to make up for the lack of posting, here's an icon meme from [livejournal.com profile] revyrie. Some of us are too poor to pay for accounts we use for ourselves ([livejournal.com profile] dirk__gently stays paid, oh yes he does), and can't stand the banner ads. I've only got the tightwad six, so I'll put 'em all up.

Okay, I usually put a little bit of milk in, but it looked better graphically black. Got my coffee one slow morning, set it down on the desk by the keyboard, and thought heeey... Digital cameras are a bad influence. This is also my DA icon.

The image here was a random graphic plastered on the back of one of the older Poison Elves comics, penned entirely by Drew Hayes. I used to read PE when I lived in B'ham and inherited a lot of Alex's collection of it. It's angsty and violent stuff, but funny. I never met Drew Hayes, even though we not only lived in the same area but apparently moved in the same circles. It seemed like a lot of the people I knew met him, and he even described a buddy of mine in the foreword once. Drew Hayes is gone now, and he wasn't much older than me. I think he'd appreciate the icon. The saying is purely mine.

Doesn't everyone have this one? I didn't know that back when I snagged it. I'm a Muppet freak, I had to have at least one Muppet icon. If I had more icon space there's be a Rowlf one too...

I keep wishing people would ask me about this one. Apart from the text (which is hard to read) this is an unedited photo. The last time I went out to visit B'ham my friend Gabe [livejournal.com profile] madcowchef made these skull meatballs. They were spicy and sweet and wonderful, and watched you with their hollow little eyesockets as your fork descended upon them.

I snagged this from [livejournal.com profile] cheezdanish or one of her accounts, and she in turn says she snagged it from somewhere else. What can I say? I fell in love with it. I grew up watching Red Dwarf on PBS (Ah, the joys of living next to British Columbia), and I know own almost all of it on DVD. I have converted everyone I have made watch it into a fan. Including my mother.

My hair's grown out since then, but that's close to the length I like it. This photo was taken from a ridiculous height. I look extremely skeptical. It is out front of the apartment. The text is probably unecessary.

I'll try to post again tomorrow, if I'm not dead by the time I get home from work and all.

Those are cute stockings! Steven got me one for the time I joined his family for Christmas. It's red and has a cute kitty head on it... and he got it from Petco. :P

There's a horrible joke in there I'm not going to make. ;D I'm still using the ancient fuzzy red felted thing from when I was a chiddler. It's going to fall apart some year soon.
