First off, Happy Birthday Piuthar! That's [livejournal.com profile] amethystlight to the rest of you. Despite actually asking before the day itself, your birthday gift art will be late. I keep promising people gift art and I have a backlog... I still owe Wendy the meme art. Not to mention I have this fanart project thingy I gave myself a while back, and I've only made a small dent in that. Here's a dent: The fanart for Courtney and Aloysius Crumrin. I might need to edit and reupload that, because the green is wonderfully intense, but their skin is too bright pink. Time to play with saturation levels... The list for the whole fanart project is on the main page of the gallery.

In pet news, the vet finally got back to me with the lab results, and told me my cat has high cholesterol. WTF? What am I supposed to do about this? She didn't seem to think any kind of medication was warranted, but what else am I supposed to do? She eats only dry food, and it's Purina One at that. Okay, she does get tiny tiny scraps of people food sometimes, but we're talking two bites a month. Also we obtained a set of pumpkin millipedes, which brought the count of millipedes in this house up to six. Six! Unfortunately one died last night, but I guess they were pretty young, and things happen...

Went to the State Fair twice, took pictures, too lazy to upload.

Okay, there are some memes going around, and I signed up for them from a couple people, but am only now getting around to answering.

Reply to this post, and I will list three things I love about you. Maybe more than three. Then repost to your own journal and spread the love.

Also:

Comment on this post. I will choose seven interests from your profile and you will explain what they mean and why you are interested in them. Post this along with your answers in your own journal so that others can play along.

The seven interests meme:
Questions from [livejournal.com profile] placeboweek
1. Bellingham, WA to be specific. Go ahead and googlemap it, it won't give me a good URL to link. This is the city I was born in and grew up in, until I moved out here about seven years ago. I list it as an interest because I'm still always curious what's going on in my old stomping grounds. Bellingham is a city, not a tiny little town where everyone knows each other, contrary to what people seem to think. It is hippiesville though, and pot might as well be legal there...

3. Canti is the robot from an anime called FLCL. I have some fanart of him buried in ym DA gallery, but again if you google or wiki him, you should get a welath of info. FLCL is one of the funniest anime I've seen in a while, just don't try to make any sense of it, because there isn't much. Mostly it's about this kid, who gets whacked on the head by an alien girl with a guitar, and then robots come out of his head. Canti is one of them, but he becomes one of the main characters and kind of a household servant, except there's this one chick that thinks he's a god.
...yeah.

3. Prismacolors:I grew up using whatever art supplies I could get my hands on, mostly my mom's old stuff from college. Then I met Bridgie and she said I needed to try prismacolor pencils. I said colored pencils are colored pencils and those are expensive, so she sent me a big set of them. Colored pencils are not just colored pencils. We have prismacolor markers and pencils all over the place now, but the colors are consistent between markers and pencils so they combine well, the pencils are very high quality and smooth, basically I'm hooked.

4. World Creation: I only recently learned there's a name for this and other people do it. I have a number of fantasy worlds, most of them fairly detailed. There are characters and storylines within those worlds, and me and the rest of the household RP in them, but I also enjoy designing the flora, fauna, history, political structure, etc.

5. Wylde Nept is a celtic band our friend Wendy ([livejournal.com profile] ciuinferrin) introduced us to when we visited her. I think Shad might have 'em listed in his favs too... They're very good, and I like their original stuff, not just their versions of celtic classics.

6. Dave Mckean is the guy whose name you see paired with Neil Gaiman a lot. He does this amazing collage-y digital art. Look up Mirrormask or Neverwhere for some of his stuff with Neil. Also the storybook Wolves in the Walls, which is awesome. I know he's done some other kid's storybooks with Neil but that's the only one I've read.

7. Nostalgia is kind of an unavoidable interest, isn't it? It is for me at least. I know I find my brain wandering to the old remember when stuff all the time... plus I miss the eighties cartoons from my childhood. The eighties were good stupid fun.

Questions from [livejournal.com profile] dragonwhishes
There's some repeats from above...
1. Brian Froud is the guy who designed the Dark Crystal and Labyrinth, and he's got a substantial body of work about faeries. I have lots of his art books. Gorgeous watercolor over pencil, and his wife makes dolls that look like his drawings... or vice-versa.

2. Poison Elves is/was a comic written by a guy from my hometown, B'ham, but you can find it on comic stands all over. The author/artist Drew Hayes died not too long ago, which is a shame. He wasn't much older than me. I never met him, but it seemed like everyone else I knew did, because we all moved in the same circles I guess. The elves of the Arraka'ar world (Where Telve and Bardha are from) were influenced by PE.

3. Information Society is the band that basically pioneered techno way back in the when. Their Hack album is a bestseller, even if their stuff isn't quite like the techno that's out there now. It's good stuff.

4. World Creation: See above

5. Canti: See above

6. You can't tell me you don't know who Rowlf the Dog is. As much as people adore Kermit and describe Jim Henson as being similar to him, he always identified more with Rowlf, who's actually been around longer than Kermit, or at least in a fully realized form. Rowlf was used on late night talk shows way before the Muppet Show came about. I always liked him because of the laid back manner, and the piano playing, because I used to do piano. I saw one of the old Rowlf puppets in the smithsonian once and just stared at his puppet hands, which had been worn and shaped by the human hands inside them.

7. Prismacolors: See above

If you want to ask some different ones so there's not repeats, I'll answer...

That's very sweet, all three of those things, thank you. :)

I always feel a little light-headed after having my cutlery drained.

1. Bubble tea is milk tea (usually flavored with something) and little round balls called pearls. They're made of tapioca and taste a little like soft gummy bears. I love bubble tea because it's like getting something to drink and something to eat all in one treat.

2. I'm gerbil-obsessed because they make awesome pets. They're easy to take care of, clean, cute, and entertaining. And they don't trigger my allergies. And they're dumb as rocks. What's not to love?

3. Sorry, I'm a mac girl. ;) Ever since my dad brought home a Mac classic, I've been in love with macs. It made sense to get an iPod because it worked so seamlessly with my mac. I was starting to accumulate quite the music collection, too, so I needed something that could hold all my tunes.

Currently, I'm trying to convince myself that I don't need a touch iPod, that the nano and the regular 40GB I own should be more than enough.

4. J.P. Lick's is an ice cream shop! It's called that because the first store was in an area of Boston called Jamaica Plain. They have delicious ice cream and ice cream cakes, and the best soft-serve frozen yogurt on the planet.

5. o/~ Young man, there's a place you can go/ I said, Young man, when you're short on your dough o/~

Uh... anyway, I belong to the Y, it's where I learned to swim and where I exercise. Gyms around here are expensive and they're one of the cheaper ones.

6. Ogden Nash is a 20th century poet, known for his witty and humorous poems about animals, people, and relationships. You should check him out, some of his poems are really clever and cute. He's one of the most underrated poets of the 20th century.

7. I has a crockpot! I like to cook with it in the winter. You just shove a bunch of stuff into it in the morning, and then come home to the smell of a delicious dinner.

1. Like orbitz? That stuff is nasty.

2. I have had some gerbils that were dumb as rocks, but I've had some smart ones too. They're excellent at recycling cardboard.

3. I have a non-ipod MP3 player... I've worked with macs and PC's, and Macs do crash less, but the issue I have with macs is that if anything goes, you have to take it to a qualified repair person, who will order the part and put it in for a part fee, shipping fee, and labor fee. With all of that, Macs have to have less problems, otherwise no one would buy them. I build my own computers. A computer where I can't replace so much as even the simplest bits because no one will sell them to me rubs me the wrong way.

4. Never heard of it...

5. Gyms are too damn expensive... but I get my excercise walking and playing with swords.

6. You are clearly too well-read for me.

7. Hunh. Guess we should use ours more.

1. Orbitz? The online site for flight and hotel deals? ;)

Okay, I googled that to see what you meant and ew. No. Bubble tea has all the pearls at the bottom, and they're bigger, and they aren't suspended in the drink like some weird DNA assay. Icky.

3. That's one thing I don't like about the iPod, that once the battery dies, you're totally screwed. But, generally speaking, my mac products become outdated long before they actually crap out on me, so I'm pretty happy with them.

4. It's only in Boston, that's probably why. ;)

edit: hurr hurr, forgot who I was logged in as.

Yeah, a buddy got me to taste that crap once. OMG nasty.
As I understand it, itunes and all music on ipods is in a proprietary format? Or maybe I heard wrong. Basically that makes it less flexible all around.

And lazy logins don't bother me.

Very well, then! Have a bellsprout!

You should give bubble tea a try. People either love it or not like it at all, but I promise it can't possibly be as bad as that orbitz stuff.

I don't purchase my music on iTunes. All my music is in mp3 format. :)
