Okay, I'm working on the webpage for Wendy's friend Vadim again, and I'm bashing my head against a wall here. Hey tech geeks, does anyone know a way to make my computer bilingual? I've hit a brick wall editing the pages that are in Russian, because I can get the russian characters to transfer but then it turns my scripting into garbage... help?
Page is here, Via Romen Gypsy Ensemble.

What are you using to code it with? Microsoft office? Frontpage maybe? Do you have Dreamweaver? I have no idea what the Russian says, is it the things carrotted that you are having problems with? Have you tried text boxing stuff or tabling stuff to see if that helps? Tell me in more specifics on what's happening and maybe I can help you.

I think I see what you mean...in your source-code all the Russian words come out as weird accented vowels instead of any words. It is reading the Russian font in code, like you would code in spaces in the text and what not...I would try to use text boxes and try the "everything should be exactly the way I type it in here and no other way" and see if that will work or if it will convert it back down to code again. That's really weird. The only other thing I can think for you is try to edit it in a program. I have Dreamweaver if you want it, it has the code up top and the design on the bottom and you can change stuff in the design and it will fix it in the code. It's easier than hand coding and definitely better than office programs or frontpage programs.

I'm using notepad, I don't own any web software because I've never seen any I liked and I know the raw code. I actually got the Russian characters to stay just fine on the page I was working on, so that the text said just what it needed to say and the Russian characters were all there. Unfortunately the scripting such as the [img src=etc] and the hr were all destroyed, so that there was garbage and stuff above and below the Russian text. It seems I can have either the code turn to garbage, or the Russian turn to garbage, but I can't get them to both work on the same page.
What is carrotting?

I'm at work so I'll check and try to describe it better tonight when I get home.

OMG that's weird. Where do you get your headers that use MS Office and word things from? Look at the source code from the site if you cannot see them in notepad, it may be that the host forces headers onto the code. I never put headers like that in my tags. It is really confusing.

I should send you Dreamweaver for the heck of it. I didn't like it at first, but after coding five or six pages, I cannot live without it. Well, I COULD, but I don't want to. I will send it to you and you can use it or not-your choice. Dreamweaver can read the code and show what it says so it makes it easy to edit without actually knowing the coded language. I know raw code but my brain starts hurting after about the 2nd page of looking up source-code for things such as copywrite symbols, extra blank spacing, hyphens, other strange and rarely used characters that do not naturally occur when typing. I code a LOT in my free time and manage a couple of corporate accounts, but I am not smart enough to remember all that. If you do, hats off to you. Dreamweaver would make it sooo much easier on you though.

I know exactly what you mean, those damn headers and the excess garbage code is from whoever originally designed the thing. I'm not starting from the ground up here, I'm editing what somebody else did for him and then ditched on maintaining. I need to go through and weed out the useless code but I haven't had a chance.
Now see, the last time I used Dreamweaver it was worthless, but that was years ago. Look! It can put an image there! Look, it can put an hr there! Look, text! What's that, you want a table/js/form/anything even remotely above this level? Go in the back way and type in the source code. Yeah, I wasn't impressed. I like typing raw code, and I don't have any trouble with it, or haven't until now. It ends up so much cleaner than these programs. When they designed this page, EVERYTHING was in tables. Wtf? OMG page of text paragraphs, better make it a table! I had a page where it reassigned the text color to every single paragraph, even though the text color was the same throughout. I've already weeded out some of the garbage code, and it's still a mess.
Webpage programs make me cringe.

How can you fix the email thingy problem? Last I spoke to Vadim he was none to happy about being spammed to death. How ironic...an Gypsy drowning in email...

The eml link on the page itself was just in text, which is... weird. I fixed that. Whoever set up the page had it that way and I just hadn't noticed. I tried to explain a couple reasons it might be happening but I don't know how well he understood. I told him I'll try to actually access his eml and fix the settings, but I don't know if I'll be able to get access to it or not. The passwords for the page and the eml are not necessarily the same.
