And some stuff.

Too lazy to edit my last post. Noticed this on Melmun's journal, and thought I should link it up too. I'm not into the activism thing, but there's an open letter to LJ about banning pro-anorexia communities. It's pretty scary this kind of shit even exists. It's a bad enough thing by itself, but the internet gives as many opportunities for this kind of stuff as it does for healing resources. Blegh.

Y- You & I & George (Rowlf the Dog), You can always count on me (City of Angels)
Z- Again, can't come up with anything.
1. Music That Changed My Life
Err... I dunno. My mother listened to jazz late at night when she was pregnant with me, and I've always loved jazz and blues even though my parents don't listen to it. Does that count?
2. Music I Can Listen To On Repeat
There's a lot I can take on repeat a couple times, which Bridge and I've both been known to do when it's inspiring a good drawing.
3. An album I would take on a desert island
This is assuming I had something to play it with, right? Probably either a Billy Joel greatest hits or maybe that double side the Game/a Night at the Opera Queen tape I've got. Something that's got a lot on it.
4. Music that makes me smile
TMBG stuff, Too Much Coffee Man, Avenue Q stuff...
5. Music That Makes Me Cry
Geez. I dunno. Some stuff from movies that were special to me as a kid, like 'Flying Dreams' from the Secret of Nimh.
6. Music I wish had been made:
More Queen stuff? I absolutely love Queen's 'Under Pressure', I wish David Bowie and Freddie Mercury had sung more together.
7. Music I Wish Had Never Been Made:
I try not to listen to that stuff. Bowie's got some bad crack... I don't listen to rap or country.
8. Music I'm Currently Into
I'm always into lots of stuff. I guess I play U2 a lot lately. I like so much different stuff...
9. Music I've Been Meaning to Explore
Geez. I can always come up with more stuff I want to get a hold of. There's plenty of older Billy Joel stuff I'm really not familiar with and I'd like to be.

Date: Aug. 10th, 2007 01:48 pm (UTC)You know how I feel about eating disorders. Strongly. And I've looked at a lot of these communities. There are hundreds on LJ, and have been for years. Literally, hundreds. Pro ana is a huge movement. There are pro bulimia communities, too.
Anyway, these communities tend to have the stated purpose of supporting people who are already anorexic by giving them tips on how to not kill themselves at it (not eating protein or dairy of any kind? be sure to take these vitamins...). Do they actually do this effectively? Hell, no. But they provide some form of validation for these mentally ill people, and it's going to be tricky for LJ to prove they're bad. Much trickier than it is for them to point to child pornography laws and say that certain fanworks are bad. Are they going to go to that much trouble? Doubt it.
Starving oneself is no more illegal behavior than self-cutting. I'm sure there are pro self-mutilation communities out there, too. Bad idea, highly disturbing and offensive, but illegal? Not technically.
I know people are mad about fandom suspensions, but this 'gotcha!' game is helping no one. Seriously, it bothers me that fanfiction and fanart is being equated with trafficking in child pornography, too. But pointing at other communities on LJ and saying 'well they're worse!' is...actually pretty juvenile. What's going to happen here is LJ is going to start shutting down everything mildly questionable, and then everyone will be pissed. That'll be fun.

I intend to remain juvenile right up through my old age, thank you. ;)
