of death and the batelf

The memorial service is past and done. I wish I could've gone. That's one of the bad parts about moving away from where you grew up, people you knew die and you hear about it all secondhand, you do your grieving alone, and you never get the closure of any of the rituals like memorial services. It leaves me feeling isolated. This isn't the kind of drawback that occurs to you when you move away.
Escapism is good, of course. We like escapism.
Along those lines, I've been accepted to play Tyldak on an RP comm connected to DM. It's funny because I had been thinking about Tyldak again lately, and even done a little random wacky crossover RP with Bridgie with him a couple weeks ago.
For those not familiar with Tyldak, yes, he's a batelf in a giant furry thong. Perhaps in my RP I will uncover the ancient mysteries of Tyldak, such as 'how the hell does he go to the bathroom in that thing?', 'How does he eat?', and 'why hasn't he gotten frostbite by now?'
But seriously, I do worry about these things, because I'm a freak. I figure he's gotta be eating massive amounts of fruit, possibly in private because eating's awkward with no hands, and have the metabolism of a hummingbird. I've also been sketching him in difficult/awkward poses to figure out how he does basic day to day things Wendy Pini didn't show much, like, say, sitting down. Sleeping. Getting up again. Because really, he's designed for flying and standing around. I like the idea that Winnowill so mercilessly shaped him for that one goal that doing everything else is a little awkward.
I am an escapist freak.

Date: Jun. 15th, 2007 01:52 pm (UTC)Oh and that Tyldak guy, he reminds me of what my brain made up a Cliff Ghast from His Dark Materials. They are NOT good guys though. Actually though, I don't know much of the Elfquest history, but if you want to borrow from His Dark Materials some, you could make the reason he doesn't freeze like the reason the witches in HDM don't freeze. They feel the cold, but it never bothers them because they are more in tune with nature and love seeing the moon and stars from up high in the North, and if they felt the cold, it would not be possible. So their makeup is different so they live longer, and they do not freeze in the cold. Anyways it was a thought that occured to me when you posed that conundrum. :) He looks fun-and I have not a clue about him haha.

Date: Jun. 16th, 2007 01:22 pm (UTC)I was looking at the book the other day, bigass trilogy bound in one volume, but I didn't buy it. I think Morri's interested in it... the movie preview looked interesting.
Tyldak is... an ambiguous guy, actually, which is always my favorite. When he's introduced he's very loyal to someone who turns out to be a major villainess, but he's loyal to her for reasons that have nothing to do with the bad things she does. She shaped him into the whole freaky winged thing so he could fly, because he begged her to, and he feels indebted to her for that. Basically he's obsessed with flight, and I don't think he concerns himself much with the politics that go on around him. Eventually she betrays him and he kind of helps fight against her, but then when she's about to be killed he swoops in and saves the villainess, and dumps her on a remote island where he figures she can't hurt anyone, which is a nice peaceable situation. He's never a good guy exactly, but he's pretty pacifistic and his only real goal in life is to fly, so he's definitely not a bad guy.
I think the creator genuinely just didn't think of these things, but I likes my fantasy to be very practical, because I'm strange like that. Probably he's so enchanted with flying he doesn't notice the cold, but there have to be limits.
