The Big Updatey

Sooo yeah. I was really, really sick. We're talking throwing up so many times I list count, roughly once every hour and a half starting at four AM... I don't get sick in a way that has me throwing up often. That's a pretty nasty virus. But! I have no understudy, so I had to go do the puppet show thing regardless. I also did the work thing yesterday, and was pretty much ready to pass out by the time I got home. Actually I was ready to pass out a few hours before that, but it wasn't really an option. I'm feeling almost normal today overall, but the bad part is I'm still basically on liquids. I'm moving warily into things like starchy-bready products and cheese but my stomach seems greatly confused and upset about these things. It's obnoxious. I got sick Friday morning, it's Wednesday and I'm still basically living off jell-o and applesauce and soup. Tonight I'm trying a quesadilla that is nothing but cheese and tortilla, and shrooms. We'll see how that goes.
You know I'm good at rambling, so I'll make cuts.
1. Name a movie that you have seen more than 10 times.
Oh gods, when you don't watch actual TV, the movies you own get recycled a lot. We watch an awful lot of MST3K around here. If I listed the ones I've probably seen 10+ times on a guess it would be a long list.
2. Name a movie that you've seen multiple times in the theater.
We saw the first Pirates movie a couple times, and I think we saw one of the Harry Potter movies there twice for some reason. Theater movies are too damn expensive.
3. Name an actor that would make you more inclined to see a movie.
Most of Johnny Depp's movies are interesting. Not necessarily good, but interesting.
4. Name an actor that would make you less likely to see a movie.
Jim Carrey. I did watch the Grinch on video, after it was years old, and the Truman Show was just fine, but he annoys me in general. There's a handful of actors whose presence tends to scream bad movie, but I don't know them by name. I just go 'oh there's that annoying guy who's only in bad movies'.
5. Name a movie that you can and do quote from.
Monty Python & the Holy Grail but doesn't everybody? MST3K quotes fly around the house plenty.
6. Name a movie musical that you know all of the lyrics to all of the songs.
Little Shop of Horrors. Best. Musical. Ever. I pick up music lyrics easily though and I'm familiar with plenty of Disney showtunes.
7. Name a movie that have been known to sing along with.
Ehenh. The above mentioned is the only one I can't fight, but I think everybody in the house sings along whenever we hear the MST3K theme song. It's like a trained reflex.
8. Name a movie that you would recommend everyone see.
Brazil? There are certain movies I think people should see at least once. I do think the Dark Crystal is a work of sheer genius but I'm also aware there are people who wouldn't comprehend or appreciate it.
9. Name a movie that you own.
Just one? The first Highlander. I'd like to own them all, even the really crappy ones, but I'm afraid they'd fight until there's only one again.
10. Name an actor that launched his/herentertainment career in another medium but who has surprised you with his/her acting chops.
Uhhh... nope. Can't come up with one.
11. Have you ever seen a movie in a drive-in? If so, what?
I've seen many, but not since I was a kid. We used to go to the Samish Twin Drive in summer nights when I was really little. I don't remember the movies, mostly I remember me and Hana and Lila in the back of the car with our sleeping bags, daring each other to hold both pop rocks and soda in our mouth at the same time.
12. Ever made out in a movie?
In a theater? Nah, not really. It's too expensive for that. ;D
13. Name a movie that you keep meaning to see but just haven't yet got around to it.
Clockwork Orange.
14. Ever walked out of a movie?
I don't think so...
15. Name a movie that made you cry in the theater.
Finding Neverland, a little. There might be others, but I only remember that because Bridgie brought it up.
16. Popcorn?
Bleh. I've never understood the attraction.
17. How often do go to the movies (as opposed to renting them or watching them at home)?
Rarely. Only a handful of times a year.
18. What's the last movie you saw in the theater?
Uhh... I'm gonna say the last Pirates movie, because that's what Bridgie listed. I know it's been a while.
19. What's your favorite/preferred genre of movie?
Fantasy or comedy, but there's so many bad comedies...
20. What's the first movie you remember seeing in the theater?
I really don't know. Since I've been on a labyrinth kick lately I will say I remember seeing that in the theater. My parents accidentally let me see Trolls a short while before, thinking it was a fantasy kids thing, and it terrified me. When the scene at the opening with the goblins waiting for Sarah to say the right words came up it reminded me of that and I remember being scared in the theater.
21. What movie do you wish you had never seen?
Ahahahaha. More than one, but they're all so forgettable I couldn't say. Titus was unenjoyable. Donnie Darko freaked me out but I can't say that I regret it, because it was a good movie.
22. What is the weirdest movie you enjoyed?
MST3K isn't weird? I own Heavy Metal and watch it sometimes when no one else is home. I have Wizards too. Ralph Bakshi is cool.
23. What is the scariest movie you've seen?
Genuinely scary? I dunno. Donnie Darko was disturbing on a personal level, Titus was just disturbing. I find the Hellraiser movies entertaining, because I am a freak, but they've never scared me.
24. What is the funniest movie you've seen?
The first time I saw the old BBC Hitchhiker's Guide flick I was laughing off my ass. I didn't like the new one, they turned it into a love story halfway through wtf?
So, we had the dress rehearsal of the puppet show on Monday, at Blackwell Primary school. The first official show at Wolftrap was today, and it's a two hour drive each way. The kids today were pretty good, a little overeager to yell stuff out but that's expected. Some lines got missed but only we knew. The kids for the dress rehearsal were incredible though, because there were more of them and it's a lower-income kind of school and they don't get that kind of thing much. The opening involves the drummer coming out, then the other woman, they get the kids to clap and stuff. Then once the clapping over the light comes on in the shadow screen and there's bushbaby puppets, then a 3D bushbaby puppet that shows up in the tree a couple times. The shadow puppets are some heads and tails, a couple small full body ones, and one big full body one that takes up the screen that got nicknamed Bushzilla late one night last year. The kids were cool with the clapping and stuff, the light came on and there was a chorus of 'ohhh' and then the first bushbaby head appeared. The kids went insane. The second head appeared, they went insane again, then both heads at once and again, each time growing in volume. Then Bushzilla came on the screen and we were deafened. OMG. It was pretty energizing even though I felt like crap.
In contrast the audience today was tame and calm. Wolftrap is a huge, swanky place, but that's a hell of a drive. I'm glad we're carpooling because I couldn't drive that. There was also snow all over the place up there, piled up and frozen in the parking lots. I crashed once I got home and I'm still tired. Work tomorrow, bleargh. I got some photos of the tree before we took it down, and I'll take more next week.
The fully assembled tree, with Bushzilla up on the screen. He's the biggest shadow puppet we have.

Bushzilla shadow puppet for size reference. That's a hinge in the middle, because he's kind of flexible and works with two rods. Whee, I look sick still.

Later in the performance, Kamba the tortoise gets flung up into the tree and stuck there. The shadow puppet gets flung up towards the top of the screen by the hyena, then when he goes off the screen this 3D tortoise shell gets flipped out on a lever. I try to wiggle the lever while I'm doing the voice because his legs are on springs so they wiggle. Here is the tree as it appears while Kamba is stuck.

Missed these shadow puppets from the celebration sequence before.

Okay, that's all I got. Off to work tomorrow and hopefully by the next time I post I'll be back on normal foods and not wanting twelve hours of sleep a day.
