I meant to update earlier this week, but I’ve been busy making arts. It’s slower going than I’d hoped, but I still feel pretty productive. The only responses I’ve gotten from Resume sending have been automated/form letter acknowledgements, and from less than a third of the places I’ve sent them to. I filed my first unemployment check claim, and I hope it clears okay. They ask how many places you’ve tried contacting for work, which is cool, but then they ask for details about each like address, and some of this stuff is responding to newspaper ads. I don’t always have that info! What am I supposed to do when it’s a job ad that doesn’t give the company name, and only some kind of gmail address to reply to? At least if there’s a phone number I can try reverse lookup, but some ads give you no clue who it really is you’re sending your resume to.
Aaanyways, enough with the whining, on with the arts. This week I’ve got a QuiLin (That’s an Asian unicorn for those unfamiliar with it, alternately spelled Kilin or Kirin), and a Pirate Aardvark! Man, I’ve been meaning to draw a pirate aardvark for years. I think I painted one on Gabe and Alex’s bookshelf years ago, but that was teeny and craptastic. I’m really pleased with the background on this, even though I had to run out and buy more markers to finish it. Both of these original arts are up for sale on our Etsy page!

Go check it out and tell your friends? Bridgie’s got a lot of dolls up there, and I am working like a madwoman to get more art up there. Expect a lot of my art to be stuff for sale on there for a while, although I have some older stuff for my own enjoyment I need to finish too.

For anyone who didn’t know, we’re leaving next Thursday for a week trip to Maine. I think we’re coming back sometime the following Thursday. I’m taking art supplies and the digital camera. I feel funny taking a vacation while I’m in the middle of job hunting, but this was planned and paid for months and months ago. On the other hand, if you tell your friends and family I’m selling art and get people to buy our stuff on Etsy or commission me, there’s always the odd chance I can make enough money to… I’m afraid to say it out loud. But it would be so cool to live off of what I’m actually good at. Don’t let a good artist get stuck working retail or worse, again? I’m almost Thirty. Working retail while I have a Graphic Design degree and make good art is getting old fast.
Hm. Also I just got my jury duty summons, I get to start calling in the middle of August. That’s gonna be fun mixed with the job search.
