Monster Day & Stuff!

The big joint Valentine's Day gift thing was to go see Coraline 3D, which I was beginning to fear we'd have to just skip completely, which is a terrible thing to think when you've been looking forward to the movie for over a year. It was awesome. I was a little worried, since the movie includes a character that doesn't exist in the book, and despite that, it still followed the book pretty closely. I can't even figure out how that's possible, but go figure! We'll have to buy it on DVD someday. Now I'm going to start looking forward to The Graveyard Book movie, which should give me a couple years of expectation.
TODAY IS MONSTER DAY! Obey the Tod. I'm probably just doing random catch-up drawing today, because I'm not sure if I'm any good at drawing monsters, but there are lots of people doing Monster Day commissions. If you want some monsters, and have a little cash, and don't draw yourself, visit:
Neogreen
Skulldog
and Purpurealuna
Apparently for those of real connections instead of sad dialup, there is Monster Day Radio which, despite the thing about October on there, is apparently running today.
Of course we owe the existence of Monster Day to
ninjahijinx!
I think we're gonna do Tremors marathon tonight. We also have this amazing find of a book called 'Monsters' and written by Vincent Price and his son. No lie. It was a find at the local pawn shop/used bookstore we love.
And now, I done been tagged, so here be a meme:

1. Make a list of 5 things you can see without getting up:
My current coffee mug which is from Shenandoah, and it's getting chipped around the edge and the mural of happy woodland creatures is fading, but it's tall, and therefore holds more coffee than the average mug. Heavy red glass pencil sharpener I bought Bridgie when I was in B'ham for a visit. The Monsters book mentioned above, which has an airbrushed weird-eyeballed thing peering in through a window on the cover. My old Quilthulu soft sculpture quilt thing, of which the tentacles are dangling over a copy of the front page photo of Obama from the inaugeration. Ominous? Yes.
2. How do you style your hair?
Ahahahahahaha- oh wait, that wasn't a joke? I get it cut short, and brush it, and say I need a haircut until it grows so long I can pull it into a ponytail. Lather, rinse, repeat.
3. What are you wearing now?
*shifty look* Black pajamas.
4. What's your occupation?
Frustrated jobhunter, freelance starving artist.
5. Do you nap a lot?
I try not to, it makes me feel unproductive.
6. Who was the last person you hugged?
Bridgie!
7. Look out the window. What do you see?
A piece of the backyard fence through a gap in the blinds.
8. Favorite class in high-school?
English, I think, with that one teacher Mrs. Willis who actually loved teaching it. Most of the kids hated her.
9. What was the last text message you received?
Beats me, my cell phone's been off service for ages. I'll bet it was something from Matt though.
10. What websites do you always visit when you go online?
My Domain eml, Livejournal, Deviant art. I think I spend the majority of my time online on one of these three.
11. What is your favourite color?
Blue, midnight or electric.
12. Where do you see yourself in three years?
Oh gods. With the jobhunting dragging on since last summer it's really hard and worrisome to even try that one. Either wallowing in despair or a successful artist and then I get scared of daring to picture myself as a successful artist when I'm on the brink of wallowing in despair... maybe I should have changed this question, it's too anxiety inducing right now.
13. What are your parents names?
Jim and Laura, but my mother goes by Lori, even though she never got it legally changed.
14. What was your least favorite class in high school?
Gym, not because I mind physical activity at all, but because I mind having other people watch and measure my physical activity and direct it in specific ways. Plus in HS my two courses of gym were the one where I permanantly destroyed my knee and the one run by the creepy old man my boyfriend and pals walked in on while he was jacking off in the locker room office.
15. What is your favourite weather and why?
Sunny and not too cold, but definitely windy.
16 Who was your childhood idol?
Jim Henson, but I admired a lot of actor/comedians too, like Danny Kaye and Donald O'Conner.
17. Who is the person on your flist you've known the longest?
shadowtricker and I think the next up is
madcowchef.
18. What's something you'd like to say to someone right now?
It'll be okay, it really will, and you're disproportionately worried, and you are so much better at your job than I know you'll ever be able to realize.
19. If you were in a band, what kind of music would you play and what instrument would you want to play?
I would really love to play the alto sax, and I miss the days when alto sax showed up in rock.
20. Tell me something you love about the person who tagged you.
revyrie is someone I've known since my early days online and the beginnings of online RP. She was the first really sensible friend for my main RP char of the time, and willing to play smacking sense into him too. Oh gods, remember the TSG's? She is an awesome person to know, friendly and caring even though there are certain views we don't agree on.
