That's actually his term for impala, but... yeah. When I lived in WA we had deer in the yard all the time. They used to come eat my mother's tomato plants on the other side of the window, even if you were standing there banging on the other side. I guess some people fed them. Raccoons too, which I hate, and the occasional coyote. There were cougars around but I never saw one myself.
