reymonkey: (My coffee)
Whooo, is it Monday already? The 17th was my OC Damien Stockholm's birthday, and I meant to finish and upload at least a couple pages of his comic, just for the sake of giving myself a deadline. Then an idea for the MGC bit me and I dropped the comic to work on that, but then Bridgie's cat Spider got sick.
First thing Saturday morning was a vet visit, and the rest of the day got consumed by caring for her and rushing to get Bridgie something to wear because we had a wedding reception way the hell of a drive away Saturday night. By the time we got home it was check on the cat and crash. Sunday we were supposed to go to some luncheon thing, but after it took half an hour just to give her a saline subcutaneous injection, we begged off that.
Because I've dealt with a cat with kidney failure before, I foolishly went 'oh yeah, I can do the injection thing. Used to be real experienced at it.' The good part is we didn't have to leave her at the vet because of that, but the bad part is I was used to doing this on a larger, much older cat. Spider is so desperately underweight now that it's hard to get a good enough wad of scruff-skin to put the needle into, and then she's just well enough to struggle enough to yank the needle back out. Whee. Care also involves force-feeding by syringe, liquid antibiotics by syringe, and eye goop to take care of the eye goop she puts out.
As of Sunday night she started acting like herself again, and she's nibbling at dry food, which apparently tastes better than the expensive wet medical food. Dragged her back to the vet for a re-check today, and she's up to all of 4.07 lbs! Isn't that... really sad. But since she was at 4.03 on Saturday morning, it's a good sign. She's cheerful and affectionate and bashing her head into any available body part for petting, which is normal Spider behavior. She's still not eating enough and I let them give her a saline injection at the vet because it was too much trouble this morning. We have a kitty on the mend. They offered to do expensive bloodwork, just to check on her organs and all, but I gave it a pass partly because Bridgie wasn't along and it's her cat, and partly because I don't see why we should draw extra blood (she had a minor bloodtest Sat) when she's getting poked and prodded and recovering from being sick as it is. She's still got another week or more of antibiotics, and then another re-check vet visit.

In the meantime, Squeaks is being an absolute brat and excessively needy because she wants to know what the deal is with everyone hanging out in the bathroom with the other cat. Specifically it's me doing that she objects to, but since I'm the one who's good at holding the cat still for all this fun treatment...

Someday I will finish my many art projects. In the meantime, I will make coffee and eat something. I'll try to catch up on RP threads today, even if it takes me until evening.
