Virginia, you suck.

No, I don't mean you, Alex. Rrrrgh. So yesterday I walked to the polls for some excercise, happy to put my two cents in. This morning on the phone my girlfriend gives me the news, because we don't get the paper these days.
Virginia voted yes to ban any form of civil union that is not a straight and legal marriage between a straight couple. No common-law marriage, no gay marriage, not power of attourney, no insurance benefits, and plenty of stuff that's just as bad for unmarried straight couples as it is for people like us.

I'm not an activist, because I don't have that kind of energy. Or faith, or idealism, or even optomism on days when something like this hits me before my coffee. But you know what? There wouldn't be so many activists if there wasn't such a need for them.

Gabe, alex, I hope you'll forgive me and understand, but if we go become Canadians then you'll all know why.
