Late, but here goes:

1. What did you do in 2012 that you’d never done before?
Started working for a veterinarian... started seriously thinking about moving to a house and staying in VA for the foreseeable future.

2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Not big on resolutions, but I got TWO jobs this year, so I think I did all right.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
A couple of people did, and one of the babies I held when she was just a few days old! B said I looked like I thought it was a bomb I was waiting to go off in my arms. I told her that's a pretty accurate analogy.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Yes. The anniversary of Squeaks' euthanasia was this past Friday. Still mourning her.

5. What countries did you visit?
Seriously didn't go anywhere much this past year, hoping that will change someday.

6. What would you like to have in 2013 that you lacked in 2012?
A house. Renting is fine, provided we find an okay landlord, but I'm so ready to get out of these crappy apartments with their crappy maintenance and their probable mold under the carpet.

7. What dates from 2012 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
I suck at remembering dates. I'm sure I won't forget Squeaks' passing though, and seeing the president re-elected was significant.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Becoming employed, not only once but twice! I now have a job that is not only decent, but that I am outright proud to tell people I work at. This shouldn't be such a big thing at my age, but it feels like it's been a long haul to get here.

9. What was your biggest failure?
Not sure, maybe having to borrow money/beg money to take my new cat to the vet when she got sick right after adoption. It made me feel like I really shouldn't have adopted her at a time when I wasn't financially stable at all, but in retrospect I'm so glad to have her, and it did turn out okay.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
No more than usual.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
Christmas gifts, with my own money that I earned, without having to count every penny. We did have a very practical Christmas so there wasn't anything real fantastic, but just knowing that I could spend what I wanted to give my girl presents was such an amazing feeling.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
B always, with her internship and her getting her learner's permit and just generally being awesome. Also she gave me what I needed every step of the way through Squeaker's death and after.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
The far right conservatives, but that's nothing new and not personal. The corporate and a coworker at my first job of the year.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Once I got money again, probably to eating out and being a little bit frivolous because it feels so good to have an income again.

15. What did you get really excited about?
Every little step where Maxie lets me hold her and play with her with growing trust. I really wonder if this cat was abused, once.
Having a freaking job I am utterly in love with!

16. What song will always remind you of 2012?
Probably 'Call me Maybe' and 'Gangnam Style'. Not saying anything good or bad about them, just they were around a lot.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
– Happier or sadder? Happier! So much so. That's not surprising since this time last year my cat had been dead just two days.
– Thinner or fatter? Enh, the same.
– Richer or poorer? Definitely richer, had no income last year.

18. What do you wish you’d done more of?
Artwork, going for walks, cleaning.

19. What do you wish you’d done less of?
Being too drained/distracted to RP even when I had the time. Being too drained/distracted to art.

20. How did you spend Christmas?
Quietly and with practicality, trying to think of this as Maxie's first year instead of the first year without Squeaks.

21. Did you fall in love in 2012?
I fell deeply, passionately in love with my job at the vet. Still deeply, passionately in love with B.

22. What was your favorite TV program?
Discovered Supernatural last year! Whoops, that ate my brain alive...

23. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
Pretty sick of the politicians.

24. What was the best book you read?
Finally read Inkheart, that was way better than the movie, anyway. Can't remember what else I read this year, which is sad.

25. What was your greatest musical discovery?
'Barton's Hollow' by the Civil War, which works both ends of my vocal range.

26. What did you want and get?
My coffeemaker! Not a keurig but a Mr. Coffee that works the same way. Seeing as I still have my old Mr. Coffee from HS I'm happy with the brand.

27. What did you want and not get?
Oh, plenty of stuff, but it's just stuff. A house, but I'm hoping that'll come this year.

28. What was your favorite film of this year?
Really enjoyed 'the Avengers', and 'Rise of the Guardians'!

29. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
Not a whole lot, and 34.

30. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Having Squeaks not get cancer?

31. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2012?
Hahahahahahahaha-oh, you're serious? I now wear scrubs to work. It's so nice not to have to think about what to wear.

32. What kept you sane?
Still not sure. Sheer will, maybe. Antidepressants. Getting a new cat.

33. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
What do we mean by 'fancy', here? Misha Collins turns out to be pretty awesome, and I just discovered him this year, but he doesn't have the t&a for me.

34. What political issue stirred you the most?
Why did you have to ask this? Ngh. Anything and everything to do with women's rights, and the election was scary as shit.

35. Who did you miss?
Squeaks.

36. Who was the best new person you met?
The new boss at the sewing machine job, who I was sad to leave behind, and everybody at my new job at the vet.

37. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2012.
There's a light at the end of the tunnel.

38. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
Have to think about this one.
